Slagback

Slagback are immense heat-tolerant fenborn with thick dorsal plates threaded by blood-rich cooling channels.
What it is
Slagback are immense heat-tolerant fenborn with thick dorsal plates threaded by blood-rich cooling channels. They graze mineral crusts and heat-resistant lichens while spending the hottest hours half-buried in loose slag.
What Keepers notice
Slagback pits trap windblown ash and eventually become cooler soil pockets where pioneer plants establish. Some foundries tolerate them as informal reclamation workers; others destroy colonies to keep slag yards visually uniform.
How this species enters Keeper life
Foundry-displacement rescue, Cinder Clinic rehabilitation, slag-field restoration, and later managed habitat placement.
This is a species dossier. Individual fenborn keep their own care state, provenance, temperament, history, and Keeper relationship.
