Species profile

What it is

Breakerback are enormous semi-aquatic fenborn with a flexible armored spine and broad webbed feet. They brace into breaking surf to feed on dislodged shellfish and can remain stable where smaller animals are swept away.

Field observation

What Keepers notice

Breakerback feeding keeps dense mussel mats from excluding every other species on exposed rock. Harbor expansion often creates artificial feeding walls, then later removes them during redevelopment, producing abrupt local population crashes.

Keeper & placement note

How this species enters Keeper life

Harbor-construction relocation, storm injury rehabilitation, Wreckward transfer, and later surf-zone stewardship.

This is a species dossier. Individual fenborn keep their own care state, provenance, temperament, history, and Keeper relationship.
